Don’t Skip Ahead —Take Every Step

From Literal to Living – Chapter 1: The Story of Creation

When you look at the creation story in Genesis 1, one thing becomes clear very quickly: God does not skip steps. He could have created everything in a single moment, but He didn’t. He created in order. He created with intention. He created with sequence.

Light came before vegetation.
Vegetation came before animals.
Land appeared before land creatures.
The environment was prepared before anything was placed in it.

If God had jumped ahead — if He had created animals before dry land existed — where would they have gone? If He had created birds before forming the sky, where would they have flown? If He had created vegetation before land appeared, where would it have grown?

Skipping steps would have created chaos.

And that same principle applies to life. We get ourselves into trouble when we try to jump ahead. When we want the outcome without the process. When we want the relationship without the foundation. When we want the blessing without the preparation. When we want to leap from A to X without walking through B, C, D, and everything in between.

There’s nothing wrong with taking every step. There’s nothing wrong with moving in order. There’s nothing wrong with letting things develop the way they’re supposed to. Following the process isn’t slow — it’s wise. It keeps us from creating chaos we didn’t have to experience.

If God Himself didn’t skip ahead, why should we?
