Prioritize Rest

From Literal to Living – Chapter 1: The Story of Creation

Genesis 2 opens with a powerful truth:

“And on the seventh day God finished His work that He had done, and He rested…”

God didn’t rest because He was tired. God rested to establish a rhythm. A pattern. A boundary. A reminder that rest is not optional.

And what’s easy to miss is that God didn’t just rest on the seventh day — He paused every day.
He worked, and then He stopped.
He created, and then He paused.
He moved, and then He rested.

That rhythm matters.

Rest protects your body.
Rest clears your mind.
Rest strengthens your emotions.
Rest gives you space to think, plan, and prepare.
Rest keeps you available for the people who need you.
Rest keeps you from burning out doing things God never assigned to you.

Sometimes the reason life feels overwhelming isn’t because the load is too heavy — it’s because the boundaries are too loose. Rest requires saying no. Rest requires stepping back. Rest requires trusting that the world will keep spinning even when you stop.

Rest is not laziness. Rest is obedience. Rest is wisdom.

If God modeled rest, we should practice it.
